The White Rose University Consortium has recently delivered two pioneering training sessions on Race Inclusion for Managers and Sponsorship in Leadership, marking the first cross-institutional initiative of its kind. These online webinars, held across the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield, and York, were well attended by a diverse group of participants from both academic and professional services.
The sessions focused on fostering a cultural shift within higher education, aiming to create more inclusive and equitable environments. They form part of the Equity in Leadership programme aim to create equitable leadership pathways. By equipping managers and sponsors with the tools to address racial bias and support staff from underrepresented backgrounds, the training aims to create long-lasting change across the institutions.
Feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the importance of this type of training in promoting diversity and inclusion. Participants praised the practical advice and strategies provided, as well as the opportunity to learn from each other and engage in meaningful discussions on race, leadership, and equity.
As a trailblazing cross-institutional initiative, these training sessions mark a significant step forward in the universities’ commitment to fostering an inclusive culture and driving positive change across the sector.
