Dr Karen Hinxman is Head of the White Rose University Consortium, a strategic partnership between the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield, and York. Since its relaunch in October 2024, she has championed a people-centred mission, enabling individuals to thrive across the partner institutions. Under her leadership, the Consortium delivers a tailored programme of practical, value-adding activities that complement and enhance existing university initiatives.
Recent initiatives have centred on identifying and addressing gaps in support for Mid-Career Researchers, leading to the creation of tailored resources that promote their career development. Karen has also spearheaded programmes aimed at diversifying academic leadership across the partner universities, and she co-leads the British Academy Early Career Researcher Network for the Yorkshire and Humber cluster, fostering inclusive opportunities for postdocs in SHAPE.
Previously, Karen worked at Imperial College London’s Postdoc and Fellows Development Centre, where she led the institutional implementation of the Researcher Development Concordat. She also served as Chair of Researchers14 (2022–23), a national network of Researcher Developers representing over 65% of the UK’s research staff community.

Melissa Green is the Operations Manager of the White Rose University Consortium. She is responsible for managing, developing and implementing a wide range of administrative and financial activities, along with overseeing all aspects of the consortiums career development programmes, and events.
Melissa worked at the University of York for five years prior to joining the consortium in 2021. She has substantial experience working in operations, including Event Management for a Business and Partnerships team. She has worked with the British Council, the British Academy, the BFI, and ACM, along with briefing internal and external agencies for website and brand design, merchandise and publicity material.

Katie Stott joined the White Rose University Consortium in 2024 as PA/Administrator for Karen Hinxman.

Sarah leads the design, delivery, and evaluation of a regional programme of professional development for early career researchers, as part of the British Academy Early Career Researcher Network, Yorkshire & Humber Cluster. Working closely with researchers and partner institutions, she develops responsive, evidence-informed initiatives that support ECR-led activity and sustainable research careers.
Alongside this, Sarah supports postgraduate researchers across the White Rose universities of Leeds, Sheffield, and York, with a particular focus on developing inclusive provision for researchers from underrepresented backgrounds.
With over a decade’s experience in researcher development at the University of Sheffield, Sarah’s work is grounded in care, equity, and evidence, and shaped by a belief that effective researcher development supports researchers as people, not just as producers of research.

Alina leads the strategic delivery of communications to enhance the consortium’s profile. She focuses on fostering collaborative relationships with member institutions to showcase shared innovations through high-quality, accessible content across digital, video, and social platforms.
Alina brings experience from the University of Sheffield, where she led marketing for multiple interdisciplinary Centres of Excellence. She has a proven track record of bridging the gap between academic research and public engagement, having successfully translated technical findings into impactful narratives for international press and lay audiences.
Experienced in building professional communities, Alina previously founded the Research Marketing Network at the University of Sheffield to break down institutional silos and facilitate knowledge-sharing. At White Rose, she applies this collaborative expertise to ensure the consortium remains a visible, cohesive, and influential force in the UK HE landscape.
