A postdoctoral researcher (postdoc) is an individual who has earned a PhD and is employed to conduct advanced academic research. Postdocs typically work under the supervision of a Principal Investigator (PI) who has obtained external funding for the research project. They may be on a fixed-term contract or contract of limited duration based on funding.

We support postdocs through the:

An independently funded fellow is a member of research staff who has successfully applied for funding to include their salary.

A lecturer on probation is typically a new academic staff member who is in a probationary period at one of our partner universities. As the probation period differs across our partner universities, we will consider anyone who is within three years of taking up their appointment as an academic eligible for our training programmes.
