Who we are

The White Rose University Consortium is a strategic partnership between the universities of Leeds, Sheffield, and York. We collaborate with institutional, regional, and national partners to drive positive change and create sustained impact across our partner universities.

Established in 1997, the Consortium has launched various initiatives, including bottom-up research collaborations, doctoral training programmes, and library partnerships, collectively securing over £210 million in external investment.

Our mission is to empower individuals from all backgrounds to thrive within our institutions. We support our professional services colleagues and researchers, from postgraduate researchers to academics, by providing career development activities, fostering vibrant networks, championing cultural change and leading impactful projects.

Who we aren't

The Consortium is proud to be part of an ecosystem of collaborative initiatives across our region. While we are a distinct entity with our own operational focus, we share a common spirit of cooperation with several other White Rose organisations.

Our history is closely linked with these partners, and we continue to value the strong professional and strategic ties that connect us.

White Rose Libraries

We maintain a particularly close and active partnership with White Rose Libraries. Together, we work within the broader collaborative framework of the White Rose University Consortium to integrate resources across the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield, and York, ensuring a unified approach to academic excellence and inclusivity.

We have worked closely with White Rose DTPs over the years. As they evolve and welcome new partners, we are now operating independently of the network.

White Rose BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP)

The White Rose BBSRC DTP in Mechanistic Biology brings together the research of the world-class molecular and cellular bioscience centres at the White Rose universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York. Although the Consortium transitioned away from direct operational involvement with the DTP in recent years, we continue to celebrate their success as a key part of our wider institutional family.

White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities (WRoCAH)

WRoCAH delivers a premier internationalised doctoral training programme. While WRoCAH operates its funding and training independently of the Consortium, we remain strategically aligned and our leadership continues to support WRoCAH through active representation on its Board.

White Rose ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP)

The White Rose ESRC DTP is a collaboration across seven North of England universities. While the DTP manages its social sciences doctoral training independently, we value the shared history and the ongoing academic community fostered by our mutual university partners.

The White Rose University Consortium actively engages with institutional, regional and national partners to propel positive change and create sustained impact for individuals, communities, and the region.
