The Research Culture Uncovered Podcast Wins the Vitae ICE Award

Colleagues from the University of Leeds have been awarded the ‘Research Culture Impact Through Researcher Development’ award at the Vitae Impact, Culture and Engagement (ICE) Awards 2024 recognising their significant contributions to the researcher development community. The team behind the Research Culture Uncovered Podcast celebrated their win at the Vitae International Researcher Development Conference Gala dinner on 23 September at The Rep, Birmingham.

The award acknowledges the podcast’s impactful and innovative work in enhancing research culture. The winning Leeds team includes members from Organisational Development and Professional Learning (OD&PL) and the Library Research Services Team: Dr. Emma Spary, Dr. Ged Hall, Ruth Winden, Dr. Taryn Bell, Nick Sheppard, Dr. Tony Bromley, and Katie Jones.

Dr. Emma Spary, Head of Researcher Development and Culture, expressed her delight, attributing the award to the team’s hard work and dedication. She emphasised the importance of research culture and the podcast’s role in driving impactful change within the research community.

Claire Viney, CEO of The Careers Research and Advisory Centre (CRAC) and Vitae, praised the team for their innovative approach and significant impact on research culture. The podcast, launched in 2022, has released over 90 episodes, attracting more than 5,600 listeners from 86 countries and achieving over 9,500 downloads.

As the podcast enters its ninth season, new hosts Dr. Heledd Jarosz-Griffiths and Dr. Emily Goodall will join the team, bringing fresh insights and expertise. Upcoming episodes will explore a range of topics, including the role of podcasting in research culture and embedding research culture from an early career stage.
