THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED.

Join us a new event, Supporting Careers and Community for Mature PGRs, which will take place in Leeds on 18th March, 10am – 4.15pm.

This dedicated event for mature postgraduate researchers at the universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York brings together career development and community-building in one focused, supportive space.

The day will explore future-planning in a practical and holistic way, considering not only academic and non-academic career pathways, but also how work fits alongside wider life commitments and ambitions. We will examine non-linear career journeys, recognising the diverse professional and personal experiences that mature PGRs bring, and offering practical strategies for navigating transitions with confidence.

There will also be some shorter, focused workshops, allowing you to choose sessions most relevant to your goals and circumstances.

The Consortium is really keen for you to shape the future of the White Rose Mature PGR Network. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to its priorities, suggest areas of focus, and help define what meaningful support and community should look like going forward.

Whether you are exploring next steps, recalibrating plans, or seeking connection with peers who share similar experiences, this event offers a structured, collaborative environment to reflect, plan, and influence what comes next.

How we define “Mature PGRs”: HESA defines anyone starting their PhD at the age of 25 over as a mature PGR, so if that applies to you, you’re very welcome to come along!

Place allocation: Places will be allocated through a ballot process. After the application deadline, all eligible applications will be entered into a random draw, from which 45 participants, 15 per partner, will be selected. This method ensures that everyone who applies has an equal opportunity to take part in the event.

Travel expenses: We will reimburse travel costs of up to £30 for delegates from our member institutions at York and Sheffield who are attending the careers day in Leeds. Please read our travel policy at the bottom of this form for more information.
