The Valuing Voices Tool provides a practical way to build equitable and responsible practice into the design and delivery of research. It is particularly useful when planning a new project or grant application but can also be used to review an existing research team or when developing a research centre, partnership or network.

The tool brings together five principles covering engagement and impact, equity and diversity in teams, strategic risk mapping, environmental sustainability, and reflection and learning, supported by practical resources and four results-based planning questions. For established researchers leading increasingly complex projects and collaborations, it provides a useful structure for stepping beyond the research question itself to consider how the research will be led, who will be involved and affected, and how equitable and responsible intentions will be carried through into practice.
