About the White Rose Brussels Office
The purpose of the White Rose Brussels Office is long-term strategic positioning of the three White Rose universities to key stakeholders in Brussels to influence EU research policy. The Office also engages in horizon scanning and opportunity spotting in strategic areas of the universities as well as information gathering.
The White Rose universities will engage strategically with more European universities and strengthen current links with European members of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), such as the Universities of Maastricht, Bergen and Basel.
Stakeholders
Our engagement with key stakeholders is strategic, focused on areas of research excellence, which are supported by EU funding and which align with current EU research priorities. Key stakeholders in Brussels include the European Commission, particularly the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD), Directorate-General for Education and Culture (DG EAC) and Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT). Other key stakeholders are the European Parliament, particularly the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) representing Yorkshire and the Humber, and MEPs on the Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) Committee and the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) Committee.
Our Objectives
The White Rose universities have a large number of alumni based in Belgium and the Brussels Office will aim to interact closely with the alumni to assist in profile raising and also for internship and job opportunities in Belgium. The Office creates and maintains key relationships with other Brussels-based liaison offices, such as the UK Research Office (UKRO) and relevant NGOs who influence EU research policy.Three Universities, One Consortium
