The Government Office for Science has published a new Academic Engagement Toolkit.

Designed to support effective engagement between the UK government and academia, the toolkit brings together practical guidance, tools and resources on:

– Identifying and working with experts
– Choosing the right engagement routes
– Supporting inclusive engagement

The toolkit is designed to help civil servants engage more confidently and effectively with academics.

It also helps academics better understand how engagement with government works and how their expertise can be used most effectively.

By setting out how government approaches academic engagement, this toolkit helps academics better understand the environment in which their insights are used. It also helps academics make more effective use of their time and effort, and to engage in ways that are most useful to government decision-making.
