Network Information

The White Rose Practical Philosophy Network will bring together Leeds, Sheffield and York philosophers – (staff and postgrads) who work in ethics, political philosophy and aesthetics.  Whilst all are invited, the focus will be on postgrads and early career researchers.

The network will create a supportive environment in which we will hold state-of-the art masterclasses on topics of mutual interest, and allow philosophers to present their work to peers. There will also be the chance for professional networking and mentoring.

We will be meeting twice a year with the first meeting held in Leeds on Friday 20 June, with following events in Sheffield (Autumn 2025) and York (Spring 2026).  The Leeds postgraduate masterclass will be concerned with ‘normative powers’: philosophical discussion and analysis of such activities as promising, consenting, approving.

The White Rose University Consortium actively engages with institutional, regional and national partners to propel positive change and create sustained impact for individuals, communities, and the region.
