The role of the factual mass media in post-conflict reconstruction

The Centre for Freedom of the Media (CFOM), at the University of Sheffield, is hosting a one-day conference at the University of Sheffield (UK) on 11 June 2018 on ‘The role of the factual mass media in post-conflict reconstruction’.
This academic conference is concerned with the role the media can play in helping to (re-)build civil societies and we have a line up of great speakers.
Our keynote speaker is Jeffrey Alexander, Lillian Chavenson Saden Professor of Sociology, Yale University, who has written widely on the civil sphere and who has also engaged with the concept of civil repair which he will focus on in his contribution.
Other presentations focus on the media in UN peacekeeping processes generally and particularly in Mali and Democratic Republic of Congo, questions of legitimacy of UN peace media interventions as well the role of the media in the building of civil norms in post-conflict reconstruction settings.
