Investigating Mitophagy Related Drug Mechanisms in Parkin Mutant Models.

This project aims to elucidate the mechanism by which mitophagy occurs in parkin mutant models with relation to Parkinson’s Disease. Parkinson’s is the second most common neurodegenerative disease and parkin mutations are the most common cause of early onset Parkinson’s. There is no disease modifying therapy in Parkinson’s. Mitophagy is the recycling of dysfunctional mitochondria and of paramount importance to neuronal populations.
