Hydrothermal microwave pyrolysis of microalgae

Andrew Rose –  Project Lead (Leeds)
Jim Gilmour (Sheffield)
James Clark (York)

Dr Andrew Ross from Leeds is to co-ordinate a project investigating whether microwave technology can provide an
effective means of producing biofuels or other useful oil-based products from algae. By combining Sheffield’s expertise on algae, microwave technology at York and Leeds’ research in biofuels, the White Rose Universities provide a strong team to develop this novel technology. “There’s a great deal of interest in the recovery of biofuels from algae, and the White Rose collaboration provides an exciting opportunity to harness the expertise of the team and apply it in this new approach,”
says Dr Ross.
